Brief History of a Victory Garden

I just learned that "Victory Gardens" were born during WWI and WWII as a way for the folks here at home to grow their own food and support the war effort. Of course, I'm over simplifying the history, but that tidbit of information got me thinking.

As a newbie gardener, I had my first ever garden summer of 2010, I am becoming more and more interested in growing my own food for my family. I'm learning about sustainability, green building, alternative energy, and a host of other "green" initiatives.

I'm at an undeclared war with the food industry. I've read too many news reports of contaminated meat, e-coli, and tainted vegetables. I think it's my time to expand my garden, grow more food for my family, and learn more about Victory Gardens.
